I teach Japanese language (all levels) and linguistics (sociolinguistics, Japanese language in society, and East Asian

linguistics) in Asian Studies Department at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN. I am also affiliated with Linguistics Program.

I'm on sabbatical 08-09!

Research

My interests are in sociolinguistics, Japanese linguistics, and foreign language pedagogy. My current project examines Hmong American speech in the Twin Cities with reference to local majority norm.

I am working with two McNair scholars (students) during the summer to add more data to my project on Hmong American English.
